Wilson was born in 1956 in Vancouver. Proficient in swimming and football, he completed his graduation in Economics. In 1979, Wilson founded Westbeach Snowboard Ltd (Westbeach). The company sold apparel used in surfing, skating, and snowboard games. Westbeach became highly popular among sporting goods and apparel retailers. Wilson sold off the company in 1997. He also marketed a sub-brand named ‘Homeless’ which proved to be fairly successful and popular in Japan. Wilson attributed the success of the brand to the alphabet ‘L’ in the word ‘Homeless’. ‘L’ was not a part of the Japanese vocabulary and for the Japanese, any word with an ‘L’ sound meant the product had originated in the West. He said, “So in my mind, next time I have a business, I’m going to put three Ls in it, and maybe the Japanese will pay three times as much for it.”...
